Dear Liberation Tech Colleagues,
I thought you might be interested in these reflections by Quintus Jett
(PhD, Stanford) about how nonprofits use social media:
"Communities: Real and Imagined"
<http://ping.fm/EVJJ9>
His starting point is Benedict Anderson's theory of imagined communities,
which was original used to describe the emergence of national identities.
He applies that theory how nonprofit organizations use (or don't use)
social media to create communities of stakeholders.
And here's a little blurb about the author:
"Quintus Jett is an Assistant Professor of Public Affairs and
Administration at Rutgers University, in conjunction with the Center for
Urban Entrepreneurship and Economic Development. His doctorate from
Stanford University is in the field of organizational theory, with a focus
on innovation and management in high-tech industries. Applying insights
from this field, he has focused his research on the design of organizations
that must be responsive to changing technology, growing diversity, and
other significant environmental changes. In addition he has a master's
degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University, and a bachelor's
degree in systems engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. He is
also the founder of the Gentilly Project."
