Hi all --
I've been working with a wide range of Burmese human rights, media, and
activist groups on the November 7th
elections<http://www.burmaelectiontracker.org/>and on a spectrum of
Burma-related online/mobile security, digital activism,
and human rights projects this Fall/Winter with NDI. I've had a number of
questions and useful pieces of information/observations to bring to this
group for discussion that I'm looking forward to following up with as time
allows.
Right now, my query is regarding the attack and defacement of Yatanarpon's
web portal, which is the company that launched the "new National Web Portal"
in October that Reporters Without Borders put out a useful
report<http://en.rsf.org/burma-junta-uses-internet-upgrade-to-10-11-2010,38784.html>on
recently. Last night what appears to have been an activist hacker or
group of hackers calling themselves "Humpty Dumpty" defaced the site with an
image of Daw Suu (Aung San Suu
Kyi)<http://www.peoplemediavoice.com/inside-burma/yatanabon-webportal-hacked-again.html>,
which has since been removed while Yatanarpon's site is still not restored.
Anyone recognize the handle of this group? Would love to know some more if
you do or any feedback/theories that this crew may have. I do not think it
was the same as yet unidentified source that launched the prolonged
DDoS<http://asert.arbornetworks.com/2010/11/attac-severs-myanmar-internet/>attacks
against the Burmese infrastructure during late October/early
November.
Thank you for any assistance/input!
Best,
Carol
