*** Digital Rights Foundation’s 2020 Annual Report is Now Out ***

The Digital Rights Foundation has been a central force in making the
internet safer and more accessible in Pakistan. They just released
their annual report, which provides guidelines to media organizations
and journalists on ways to bring gender equality into the mainstream
of the profession.

*** After Nearly Two Decades in the Dark, Facebook Releases Its Human
Rights Policy ***

Facebook has released its first Corporate Human Rights Policy. For
many, this display of accountability comes far too late. It also
raises more questions than answers around how Facebook will more
effectively integrate human rights considerations into its day-to-day
operations and strategic decision making.

*** TikTok Wants to Keep Tracking iPhone Users with State-Backed Workaround ***

Some of China’s biggest technology companies, including ByteDance and
Tencent, are testing a tool to bypass Apple’s new privacy rules and
continue tracking iPhone users without their consent to serve them
targeted mobile advertisements.

*** Ground Safe: Assessing the Digital Security Needs and Practices of HRDs ***

The recent Ground Safe report presents the current state of digital
security threats facing HRDs — and the knowledge and skills needed to
counter them. Based on this analysis, the report makes recommendations
for improving digital security knowledge and practice on the ground.

*** Desórdenes Informativos en Redes Sociales sobre la COVID-19 en Venezuela ***

COVID InfoDesorden es un proyecto enfocado en Venezuela, en el que se
observaron las dinámicas de propagación y la vinculación de desórdenes
informativos que conectan con la política nacional, geopolítica,
teorías de conspiración y mitos. El proyecto recoge evidencias en las
que destacan el uso político de la información en la pandemia. Además
de observarse extensa difusión de contenidos de sinofobia,
viralización de contenidos adaptados de la “alt-right” de EEUU,
informaciones de otros países pasadas por error, entre otros
fenómenos.
