Dear friends,

This newsletter is a service for the community of Internet Freedom
defenders around the world! Send us interesting updates, open positions,
events and resources and we will share it in our next newsletter.
Contact us at team at internetfreedomfestival.org.

Here are our updates for the week of February 11-15:

*** The 2019 Internet Freedom Festival Schedule is Live! ***

The 2019 Internet Freedom Festival Schedule is finally out! And, you
know what?

+ 45% of the 2019 IFF presenters will be able to participate thanks to
the stipends provided through our Diversity and Inclusion Program. A big
thank you to everyone who has made it possible!

+ Over 60% of the 2019 presenters identify as women or gender
non-conforming.

Because the IFF is a festival, not a conference, the +200 sessions from
all around the world are not the only thing that you should be excited
about. We’ll be celebrating our 5th anniversary with lots of activities
for y’all: community events, cultural activities, tools showcase,
community expo, city outings, social nights, and many other new things
to do.

We are also currently looking for folks who want host specific meetups,
and have a few spots left on in our expo area. If you want to know more
about these opportunities, please reach out to us!

Here’s the program: https://schedule.internetfreedomfestival.org

*** Venezuela Glitter Meetup ***

This week’s special guest will discuss the current situation in
Venezuela. If you have any questions, please send them our way if you
cannot attend! For an invitation, please email

*** Repeal162: A movement Mapping Out a Brighter Future for LGBTQI in
Kenya ***

Repeal162 refers to the collective movement to challenge sections of the
Kenyan Penal Code that discriminate against the LGBTQI community.
Currently, there are two lawsuits before the Kenyan High Court, with
final judgement to be given on February 22.

*** How Memes and a Transfer App May Have Helped Popularize VPN Use in
Zimbabwe ***

“Memes are a critical vector for spreading information—for better or
worse—through digital media. So it makes sense that information is being
spread through memes..”
