*** Kaspersky Products Banned by EU Parliament ***

Kaspersky was banned by the EU Parliament with a vote of 476 vs 151, as
it was “confirmed as malicious.” Although non-binding, the resolution
could lead to more EU member states taking action to clamp down on sales
of the Russian AV vendor’s products.

*** Social media disruptions follow police violence in Mali ***

The European Union and the United Nations have called on Mali’s
government to respect freedom of expression ahead of and during the
upcoming presidential elections. Internet Sans Frontieres have reported
a shutdown of social media platforms in Mali, following a violent police
crackdown on opposition protests calling for transparency and
accountability in the elections.

*** Online Harassment of Politically-Active Women: An Overview ***

>From Tactical Tech, a comprehensive 9 section report of online
harassment experienced by politically active women. Among their many
findings, they state that lack of a globally-agreed upon framework for
defining online harassment directly impacts the response to it, and
hinders efforts by women to reach out for support.

*** The Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa Heading to Ghana in
September ***
The 2018 edition of the Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa (FIFAfrica)
set to take place In Ghana. Dates are September 26–28. The Forum brings
together various stakeholders from the internet governance and online
rights arena in Africa and beyond to deliberate on gaps, concerns, and
opportunities for advancing privacy, access to information, free
expression, non-discrimination and the free flow of information online
on the continent.
