*** Mozilla's Creative Media Awards - Applications Now Open ***
Mozilla is now accepting applications for their new round of awards. $225,000 will be given to technologists and media makers who help the public understand how threats to a healthy internet affect their everyday lives. For this round, they are specifically looking for projects that explore artificial intelligence and machine learning. This includes biased algorithms, skewed data sets, and broken recommendation engines that can radicalize YouTube users, promote racism, and spread fake news, among other things.

*** Facebook Gave Data Access to Chinese Firm Flagged by U.S. Intelligence ***
Facebook has data-sharing partnerships with at least four Chinese electronics companies, including a manufacturing giant that has a close relationship with China’s government, the social media company said on Tuesday.

*** Zimbabwe to Use Chinese Facial Recognition Technology ***
The Zimbabwean government has partnered with Chinese company Cloudwalk Technology Co. on a mass recognition project. Details of the agreement was revealed by the Chinese media outlet Global Times. According to the report, the governments seeks to utilise facial recognition technology to improve its law enforcement capabilities and strengthen security in the country.

PGP’s Philip Zimmerman has joined the StartPage search engine, which allows people to privately search Google results.
