Dear friends,

This newsletter is at the service of the community to highlight
interesting updates, open positions, events and resources for the
Internet Freedom defenders around the world. If you want to make a
submission for the next newsletter, please email:
team at internetfreedomfestival.org.

Here are your updates for the week of June 25 – June 29:

### News and Updates ###

*** Call Out: Valencia received 630 refugees, how do we help?***

More than 630 refugees were received in Valencia this past month after
the search and rescue boat Aquarius, operated by Doctors without Borders
and SOS Mediterranee, was denied entry in various EU ports. The
government of Valencia has deployed Operation Mediterranean Hope, a
massive coordinated response to care of the needs of the refugees, and
has already received over 1,000 volunteers. However, we would like to
find a way that the IFF community can also help, given the skill set and
expertise that many of you have.

If you have an idea, resource or service, please email us at
team at internetfreedomfestival.org or ping us on twitter @InternetFF.
Remember that these folks will need continuous support, so you can even
recommend something to do during festival.

*** 60 NGOs, community groups, and academics across the EU join together
to file complaints over Member States’ non-compliance with mass
surveillance rulings ***

The complaints call for the EU governments to stop requiring companies
to store all communications data. The practice was ruled unlawful by the
Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in two separate judgments
in 2014 and 2016. The UK complaint was filed by Privacy International,
Liberty, and Open Rights Group.

*** Privacy Badger Rolls Out New Ways to Fight Facebook Tracking ***

EFF released a new version of Privacy Badger featuring a new,
experimental way to protect your privacy on—and crucially, off—Facebook.

*** Turkey's pivotal election ***

Al Jazeera's Priyanka Gupta explains the numbers, the candidates - and
why the changes to Turkey's political system are so significant. Since
2016, the Turkish state has jailed over 300 journalists, and has fired
over 100,000 state employees decried as “enemies of the people”
