Friends,
The Internet Freedom Festival is committed to providing a safe and
welcoming environment for participants of all backgrounds - as an
international, multidisciplinary gathering, we encourage all
participants to approach the event with open and positive attitudes, and
to engage constructively with others at all times.
In support of this, reviewing and updating the standing IFF Code of
Conduct (CoC) was a core priority for 2017 - *we're excited to now share
this updated IFF Code of Conduct with the community!**

The updated Code of Conduct is the product of significant collaborative
effort, driven by IFF Diversity Advisor *Valerie Aurora* and Lead IFF
Facilitator *Gaba Rodriguez*, and includes the following changes and
improvements:
/*+ Guide to Communication:*/
A companion resource to the CoC, with guidance on how participants can
support positive, constructive interaction during sessions, workshops,
and the IFF as a whole.
/*+ Incident Resp*/*/onse Committee:/
*A diverse group of 8 community members, trained individually by the
Diversity Advisor to handle incidents or conflicts in a sensitive and
professional manner.
*/+ Updates to Policies:/*
This includes tweaks and improvements to stated policies on harassment,
participant privacy, and to the process for confidentially reporting
violations.
We also received a great deal of valuable input from the community - in
addition to Valeria and Gaba, we'd like to extend a huge thank you *Gem
Barrett* for her support building the original CoC for the 2016 IFF, and
to our Incident Response Committee Members *Cheekay Cinco*, *Lindsay
Beck*, *Mohamad Najem*, *Moses Karanja*, *Sandy Ordóñez*, *Sergio
Araiza*, and *Trinh Nguyen*!
As we count on everyone - from partner organizations to individuals - to
do their part to ensure positive experiences for all participants, we
highly encourage you all to read through the Code of Conductbefore the
festival.
See you all soon in Valencia!
