Dear all,

Hope this finds you very well! This is just a quick update on our blog COVID-19 from the Margins, brought online by the Big Data from the South Initiative. It's been just over three weeks from our blog launch on 4 May, and ten posts - in different languages, featuring the real spirit of a multilingual blog - are already online! This is thanks to the amazing engagement of the BigDataSur research community, and more broadly of researchers interested in the human-centred implications of the pandemic on the datafied Souths. We would hence like, in the first place, to thank you once again for making this important collaborative experience possible!

The posts published so far discuss multiple impacts of the pandemic on the Souths, including the invisibility of some affected communities (importantly, migrants and undocumented people), the (lack of) social protection measures taken in favour of impoverished households, the role of the crisis in exposure of the digital power of governments, and the privacy and protection implications of COVID-19 trackers. In case you have missed any of the posts, no issue: all are available at https://data-activism.net/blog-covid-19-from-the-margins/.

We are very much welcoming new contributions to the blog, further illustrating the impacts of COVID-19 on the Souths! If you'd like to submit a post, formatting and thematic guidelines are available at https://data-activism.net/2020/05/how-to-contribute-to-covid-19-from-the-margins/. We look forward to more great contributions from all over the globe.

We aim to publish some three posts per week, which is made possible by the amazing response we received. We are, as well, fundraising to keep this collaborative initiative going - hence actively looking for funding opportunities in the datafication, ICT4D, and related communities. We would be delighted to hear of any call that might help in this respect.

Oh and - don't forget to follow us on Twitter at https://twitter.com/BigDataSur, where all our post updates appear!

All the best,

Silvia, Stefania & Emiliano
