Hi, everyone,
Now that the vast majority of us are both working and socializing
remotely, it is now more important than ever that people migrate to
solutions that respect their freedom. We've already described a few in
a recent article[1], and are planning to draw more attention to this
subject in the near future.
Recently, we were contacted by a free software community member who
shared the inspiring story[2] of setting up a Jitsi server for a local
school. It got us thinking and writing an article on the power of
individual initiatives like this one, which is why we're reaching out
to you.
We're currently requesting folks on our own discussion lists to write
to <campaigns at fsf.org> with any successes they've had in getting their
friends, family, or organizations to switch to free software during
the quarantine. While successes setting up remote conferencing
applications like Jitsi Meet are probably the most pertinent, we're
also interested in hearing about the "smaller" steps people have made
recently as well, like a company's choosing to switch to LibreOffice
instead of a cloud application.
Reading liberationtech is definitely a highlight of my day, as some
great stories come through, so we wanted to make sure we reached to
you all as well. Please write in if you have something to share, or
let's get a conversation going here!
Best,
-Greg
