one clarification on proprietary phone: :p

Yes all well known are either fully proprietary like IOS or parts of it 
like Android (like firmwares). (There are other OSs as well but all 
running into one of these categories)

Though there are good effort been done toward GNU/Linux Phone like:

To be fair about android there is only one fork of it which uses fully 
free software which is called Replicant:
