Description: Do you want to use your computer science skills to
improve global health? Join a team of international researchers and
help develop a transformative intervention to improve child nutrition
and cognitive development in Bangladesh. The intervention relies on a
tablet application capable of storing a child's profile and making
personalized recommendations based on standardized health improvement
modules (kind of like mobile health care). The application will
organize the technical information and communication modules that are
elements of the intervention and will also allow community promoters
to track child-specific progress. We will also use the platform to
deliver specific aspects of the intervention (e.g., short videos to
stimulate constructive conversations between the community promoter
and study participants). We will identify a database program that
supports the use of Bengali text, images and video. The tablet
application would make it easier for community health workers to
provide accurate recommendations for children with different needs. By
contributing your time, skills, and creativity, you could make a huge
difference.

Team: The team is led by Dr. Steve Luby, a professor of medicine
co-appointed in the Woods Institute for the Environment and the
Freeman Spogli Institute. He leads projects as diverse as his titles
suggest, bringing together faculty and students from all disciplines
and many nations to address pressing public health issues. You will
work closely with PhD students Laura Kwong and Jenna Forsyth.
