Spring quarter is finally here, and we have some exciting events
planned over the next few months to watch out for!

Competitions
Last quarter, we put together a few teams to represent Stanford for
the WRCCDC and 9/11 cyber policy competitions! This quarter, we are
organizing teams for more competitions and will be holding training
sessions. Some of the competitions we will be entering are:

Plaid CTF (http://www.plaidctf.com/) - weekend of April 15th-17th
Google CTF - April 29th-May 1st
Defcon Quals - May 21st-23rd

What are CTFs? Capture the Flag (CTF) is a computer security
competition. There are several types- we'll be doing "jeopardy style"
ones. In this type, we work together to solve puzzles, break into
systems, and exploit security bugs to "capture the flag," finding
secret keys that give you points. There are different categories of
problems (crypto, forensics, web, reversing, finding people on the
internet..) with a range of difficulties, so prior experience isn't
required to get started and have fun.

Workshops
Workshops sessions events will be announced a week ahead, and includes
topics such as lockpicking, social engineering, pen testing, and MiTM
proxy.

DEFCON
16,000+ hackers, security professionals, government agents, military
personnel, groupies, and script kiddies descend on Las Vegas during
the hottest time of the year for a 4 day party to celebrate all that
is insecure in the world.
