In most cases, no. Friendly orgs/hosts will sometimes gift a cause anonymous
space on a rack, with an Internet-facing IP, but that's pretty rare.

Right. I don't use my own VPN for anonymity. Tor is better there. I use my VPN
when traveling to give me a (fast) tunnel through the ISP and over the border on
relatively innocuous ports. The rest of the time my VPNs are used as LANs on the
Internet, getting me through to machines around the world I need to stay in
touch with that are hidden behind a NAT.
