Cuba's "Wi-Fi Internet in a park" is really Intranet only. Retrenching 2.0.

The state telecommunications monopoly in Cuba , ETECSA , denied in a press
release issued by the official media that it is planning to provide
wireless internet services (Wi - Fi) to the Cuban population , as had
announced a website of government media .



The statement by the Institutional Communications Company states that " in
the last hours several media outlets have echoed information that Cuba will
begin offering wireless Internet in late January in the eastern province of
Santiago de Cuba . ETECSA clarifies all its customers that this information
is false, and that has not been issued by this entity. "



The note says that the WiFi service to be provided in recreational
Technological Park of Santiago de Cuba " is for navigation in the
'Intranet' and through its own network of the Youth Club ' Tinored ' .



Cubaperiodistas , site of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC ) , had
announced that the service would begin in late January in Santiago de Cuba
, and that users could browse the internet from personal devices such as
phones , tablets and laptops cost 4.50 CUC an hour.
