Worth mentioning: Equity crowdfunding is an interesting alternative.
Unlike reward-based crowdfunding, people who give money actually buy
shares in the resulting company. Think of it as a mini-IPO. This could
offer a funding mechanism for low-profit lib-tech activities that also
gives shareholder rights to the early adopters.
