Hi folks,
Following up on Kirby Plessas's email, we're hosting FreedomHack this
weekend at DC's 1776 incubator. We're connecting hackers, activists, and
journalists to build tools to help folks in Mexico safely get their stories
out to the world. But we're not stopping there - Dlshad Othman, Syrian
activist and Virtus Linux developer, will keynote, speaking on how our
tools can be used in ANY conflict zone.
Also, our sponsors have come through, funding the hack because they believe
in the mission. Which is awesome. That means tickets are by-donation -
anyone who wants to come and be a tech-hero shall not be stopped!

FreedomHack is a hackathon put together by CommunityRED along with
Amnesty International
and Cont3nt.com with the aim of building digital tools to aid citizen
reporters in Mexico. Mexico is consistently rated as one the most dangerous
places in the world for reporters, due to violence and targeting from drug
cartels. The tools developed during FreedomHack will capitalize on existing
open source goodness to help journalists report stories anonymously and
securely - a total necessity for more reporting of corruption in government
and cartel-related violence.
