In your responses to Pelton's article, you fail to mention what *is* indisputable -- that the Russians targeted *Dudayev*, the former leader of Chechnya, by means of his satellite phone.

While there is less evidence for the same sat-phone targeting against journalists in Syria, Pelton's main point -- that we should be concerned about Russia's $1 billion in weapons and training to Syria, and this type of history of targeting coming with it. That was indeed a good corrective to the kinds of articles that were both breathlessly speculating that Western technology was to blame, and refocusing on the with the usual anti-corporate venom on that, rather than Russia, a chief actor in the Syrian conflict. 

Jillian York, for example, speculated that corporations were to blame, cited a few without tying them to Syria, then veered off into a discussion of how Western corporations sell technology to monitor *email* -- which is a completely different topic.

It struck me that you wouldn't need technology as such if you had a group of foreign journalists, already under human surveillance, who went to the press center (an apartment) of the rebels, also already under surveillance.
