[liberationtech] jamming satellite phones in Homs

Hi Oli,
Based on my own research, my guess is that this *MIGHT* be a "new to the
Syrian military" technology, HOWEVER there are a lot of potential reasons
for this. It also could be caused by interference from foreign governments
supporting the opposition. We saw this in Libya last year, though it was
widely believed/known that NATO was jamming some/all communications at
various points over Benghazi, wreaking havoc with BBC and others BGAN
systems.
It could be any manner of causes and, unfortunately(but quite
understandably), the Syrian opposition has not so far shown themselves to
be particularly good at distinguishing the types and methods of jamming,
intercepting, and tracking communications.
Perhaps someone else on the list will comment who has greater access to
information than myself, but this is generally my understanding at this
time.
cheers
Brian
