Hello Liberationtechers,

My dear friend Karen Phillips has just returned to New York from a year in
Germany as a Bosch Fellow, and she is currently looking for a position
related to cultural policy, international development, or human rights. She
has a great deal of experience working in the US and abroad, particularly
in the area of promoting freedom of expression and protecting artists and
journalists under threat (her full resume is attached). Just as important,
she is energetic, passionate, dedicated, and wonderful to work with in
every way!

If you have any leads in these fields, I encourage you to contact her, as
she would be an asset to any organization.

thanks,
Kristina Fisher

My name is Karen Phillips and I am currently seeking a mid-level program
management or development position with a high-impact nonprofit
organization or government agency active in either international
development, international cultural affairs/exchange or the global human
rights/justice movement. I am currently based in New York City, but open to
relocating in the U.S. or abroad.

I bring over six years' experience as a program manager, researcher and
writer in the fields of cultural policy, international development and
human rights. I spent the past year exploring foreign cultural policy and
cultural development as a Transatlantic Bosch Fellow at the German
development agency (GIZ) and at the German Commission for UNESCO.
Previously, I worked at PEN American Center, the Committee to Protect
Journalists (CPJ) and freeDimensional, advocating for freedom of expression
and coordinating assistance for journalists, writers and artists under
threat. I am the author of several reports on press freedom issues around
the world and co-author of a tactical guide for artist residencies
providing safe haven to artists-at-risk.

I hold a Bachelor in Spanish and Art History from Smith College and a
Master of Public Administration from New York University's Robert F. Wagner
School of Public Service. At Wagner, I developed my skills in financial
management, strategic planning and nonprofit governance while pursuing
thematic coursework in development policy and international cultural
affairs. In 2009, I was awarded a federal grant to study cultural policies
in Brazil. As an organizational consultant, I have advised social-purpose
arts organizations in Latin America, the U.S. and Africa. I speak Spanish,
Portuguese, German and French.
