Dear,

One of the bigger problems facing civil society, human rights
defenders and independent media sites are DDoS attacks. We believe
that DDoS as a tool is on the rise.  This can severely limit the
access to important information during key events like elections. We
are determined to build an open system to better defend against DDoS
and we are looking for people to help us.

In a five-day Hackathon we hope to bring together some of the
brightest and wisest in the field of DDoS mitigation; from industry,
academies, and other fields. In teams they will tackle some of the
main pitfalls for mitigating DDoS attacks, simulate real live attacks
and try to build filtering systems using open source tools and smart
algorithms.

Together with you we hope to start off the develop of new Open Source
tools, which we can use to protect against DDoS and which we and other
hosters and  SysAdmins can easily use on their platform to make it
more resilient against DDoS attacks.

The Hackathon will start on Monday 20 august at 10:00 with a short
unconference where participants can share ideas, experiences or
thoughts on the subject. After the lunch break the hacking will start
and last till friday after which we will present the results,
hopefully in a working setup. The idea is to further develop the tools
after the hackathon.
