It's worth mentioning that off-the-record messaging already works fine on facebook chat via facebook's jabber support.  Any OtR enabled client like Jitsi, Adium, etc. should provide it happily.

In fact, if you read the messages on facebook itself, they tactfully replace the message with 
[encrypted message]

I've no idea how they feel about encrypting wall messages with GPG or anything else, but they've spent developer time making private encrypted messages less confusing.
