Hi all,

Just to clarify, I am giving two different talks at Stanford about
different focuses and aspects of the Commotion project and related
technologies. The first one is on Monday Oct 24th at MobiSocial, and the
other one is with the Communication Department on Thursday Oct 27th. The
one on the 24th is going to be more focused on the technology itself,
and the 27th is going to deal with the social challenges of these
projects. I erroneously sent out the description intended for the talk
on the 27th to MobiSocial. The correct title and description of the
MobiSocial talk is below. Sorry for the confusion.

"Designing Autonomous Communications Networks

Activists from Tahrir Square to Liberty Plaza confront forces that
curtail their ability to communicate effectively. Disruptive
technologies, from established circumvention tools like Tor to new ones
like Lantern, attempt to address this need by challenging traditional
models of network technologies. Josh King, lead technologist for the New
America Foundation's Open Technology Initiative, will speak about the
field of disruptive networks, review the technical challenges they face,
and introduce the Commotion Wireless project. Commotion, which is also
known as "Internet-in-a-Suitcase," aims to create a new device-based
physical layer that enables activists to construct autonomous networks.
King will discuss engineering issues and review both opportunities and
challenges that arise when communication devices become communication
infrastructure."
