Greeting everyone
it is nice to read this discussion, after reading about this Briar project, other then the point that has been pointed interim about java in Syria, it is also not allowed in the Sudan and could not be downloaded there also. hence it would be hard to download java in the first place let alone use it. also having the java virtual machine update to the newest version would be hard for people in these states to get the latest version because the old version was hard to get and hence the newer version would take long time to be available to people in these states. wish this could help,
best regards Omer Gibreel

Hi Michael,
I don't know, you'd need to consult an export lawyer. That said, I can say that most Syrians simply get around the ban by using circumvention to download Java, but that may not solve the legal questions here.

Hi Jillian,
Thanks for raising this point. Do you know whether US export controls
prevent a third party in a third country from redistributing Java
(subject to copyright restrictions) to users in Syria?
Cheers,
Michael
