We hire our governments to manage long-term matters such as justice,
education, and infrastructure and to do so with clarity and adroitness.
When repeated attempts at short-term fixes layer up so thickly that
dysfunction becomes the norm, the whole apparatus has to be rethought and
reshaped. Now would be a good time.
*"Fixing Broken Government" Philip K. Howard, Cowell Theater, Fort Mason
Center*, San Francisco,* 7pm, Tuesday January 18*. The show starts promptly
at 7:30pm.
