*Engineers for a Sustainable World General Meeting, featuring Dr. Job
Ebenezer, President, Technology for the Poor*

ESW is having our first general meeting of the year!  Come meet others
interested in sustainable development and design for the developing world.
Our guest speaker, Dr. Job Ebenezer, is the President of Technology for the
Poor, an international NGO that develops and helps implement affordable,
sustainable technologies.  Dr. Ebenezer will discuss the criteria he uses in
designing and promoting technology for the poor, using examples from Zambia
and India.
In addition to hearing from Dr. Ebenezer, ESW will introduce our upcoming
projects this year: Tsunami Preparedness in Indonesia and Ecologocial
Sanitation in Mexico.

"Transformative Changes Through Science and Technology: The Role for Social
Benefit Entrepreneurs," Santa Clara University*

Santa Clara University is presenting a free one-day conference (November
13th) on SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP, featuring keynotes by Muhammad Yunus,
Ashoka's Bill Drayton. With participation by the 2008 Tech Award Laureates,
and social innovation thought leaders.

The November 13 social entrepreneurship conference, "Transformative Changes
Through Science and Technology: The Role for Social Benefit Entrepreneurs"
will feature keynotes by microcredit pioneer Muhammad Yunus and social
sector leader Bill Drayton, CEO and Chair of Ashoka.
This free and open to the public event will also showcase presentations by
the 2008 Tech Awards Laureates who have been honored for technology
solutions to health, education, economic development, equality and
environmental challenges, particularly in developing countries.
Attendees, including representatives from investment communities,
foundations, commercial and academic institutions will also have the
opportunity to exchange experiences and develop cross-institutional
collaborations to solve a range of social and environmental concerns during
breakout sessions, panels, and facilitated lunch discussions.
