Activists ***

*** Citizen Lab Report on Analysis of Algorithmic Policing in Canada ***


A recent Citizen Lab report, authored by Citizen Lab fellows Kate
Robertson and Cynthia Khoo along with Yolanda Song

of IHRP, examines algorithmic technologies that are designed for use in
criminal law enforcement systems.

The report focuses on the human rights and constitutional law
implications of the use of

algorithmic policing technologies by law enforcement authorities.

In collaboration with Free Press Unlimited, ZangaTech as well as several

TunnelBear has built support for the Encrypted Server Name Indicator
(ESNI) TLS extension into their Android application.

The goal of ESNI is to provide a means of encrypting the SNI field such
that it can't be read by a censor

or other third party, but can still be used to facilitate shared hosting.

***Campaign to Demand Human Rights in Egyptian Prisons ***


Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Egyptian authorities have
enacted additional restrictions

inside its prisons, in many cases preventing prisoners from contacting
their loved ones or not providing accurate

and accessible information on what is happening inside Egypt’s prisons
with regards to the spread of COVID-19

cases inside and the measures in place to respond to this spread. The "I
Want a Letter" campaign places

four demands on Egyptian authorities, and it offers several actions that
supporters can take.

The Internet Shutdown Measurements for Advocates training is a 6-week
hands-on training where participants

open source tools and apply these skills to strengthen advocacy efforts
