*** Ranking Digital Rights Releases “Getting to the Source of
Infodemics: It’s the Business Model” ***
Misinformation was already plaguing the 2020 U.S. presidential campaign,
and tech companies have struggled to manage false claims, hate speech,
and extremist speech on their platforms. The arrival of the COVID-19
pandemic has only made the challenge more urgent. Companies and the
policymakers, however, continue to ignore the real source of the
problem: the targeted advertising business model and the algorithmic
systems that drive it.

*** China approves Proposal for Hong Kong Security Law that Curtails its
Autonomy ***
The law would ban all “activities” in Hong Kong that endanger national
security. There is no actual law yet and the language of the proposal
remains broad, but Hong Kong residents and even the Hong Kong government
will have little say in the process.

Access to Information violations, to evaluate the adopted public
policies by the Egyptian state in this regard. The report at hand covers
documented violations, according to AFTE’s monitoring standards, from

*** The OONI Project Evaluates its Measurement Engine in the Context of
the Blocking of WomenOnWeb in Spain ***
Reproduction rights site www.womenonweb.org has been blocked in Spain
over the last months by several local Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
Once Spanish hacktivist communities noticed that www.womenonweb.org was
inaccessible, they coordinated on running OONI Probe tests to collect
measurement data that could serve as evidence.
