Dear friends,
This newsletter is a service for internet freedom defenders around the
world! Send us interesting updates, open positions, events, and
resources and we will share them in our next newsletter. Contact us at
team at internetfreedomfestival.org.
Here are our updates for the week of September 23-27:
***Say Goodbye to Orfox***
Back in 2015, The Guardian Project developed Orfox, a Tor Browser for
Android. This was an important contribution, given that mobile browsing
has increasingly become the primary way many people go online. However,
this past May, Tor released the alpha version of the Tor Browser for
Android, signaling the end of Orfox. We want to give a huge shout out
for The Guardian Project and Orfox for paving the way!

*** #KeepitOn Coalition Sends Open Letter to Hong Kong Administration***
As part of a larger crackdown on the ongoing protests in Hong Kong,
Chief Executive Carrie Lam has suggested that her administration would
consider using legacy emergency legal powers to allow the Government of
Hong Kong to censor, disrupt, and block social media and other
communication platforms, and to shut down the internet. After numerous
reports of targeted DDoS and other digital attacks, the #KeepItOn
coalition sent an open letter to the Hong Kong administration asking
they not join actions that would undermine democracy in the
administrative region. .

*** OONI Launches Revamped, Next Generation OONI Explorer***
The new OONI Explorer Search Tool lets you filter measurements to view
confirmed blocked websites, websites whose testing presented anomalies,
and measurements collected on different networks. In addition, the OONI
Explorer Country pages lets you gain an overview of Internet censorship
in each country, and view the most recently confirmed blocked sites,
whether Tor is blocked, the average speed and performance of tested
networks, and much more.
