*** Last Week to Apply for the Community Empowerment Program! ***

This Friday, Sept 6, is the last day to apply to the  Community
Empowerment Program. Don’t wait for the last minute and send your
application today!

We are looking for community builders from various regions, working in
various disciplines, who are passionate about bringing people together.
This can include organizers, researchers, policy advocates, journalists,
program officers, and others!  If you have  questions, you can always
reach us at team at internetfreedomfestival.org, or in the IFF Square
channel on our Mattermost.

*** Bassel Khartabil Fellowship 2019 ***

The 2019 Bassel Khartabli fellowship application is now open until
September 28! The fellowship supports outstanding people developing free
culture in their communities. The fellowship honors the legacy of
beloved artist, open source technology innovator, and free culture
advocate Bassel Khartabil.

*** The Totem Project Launches Three New Courses in French and Farsi ***


The Totem Project, a platform with digital security training courses for
activists and journalists, now offers courses in French and Farsi.  The
course "How to bypass internet censorship in Iran" is available in
English and Farsi. Courses “Secure Passwords” and “Phishing Attacks” is
now available in French.

*** Our Data Future Explores the Possibilities of Data Ownership ***

Mozilla Fellow Valentina Pavel has created four scenarios illustrating
how different data models create different futures. The scenarios
explore current proposals connected to data ownership such as data
property and monetisation, data labour, national data funds and data
rights. The project helps us imagine what the world might look like, and
think through what's the (data) future we want to live in.
