*** WhatsApp Reveals Major Vulnerability ***

Attackers have been infecting phones with advanced spyware by using the
WhatsApp’s phone call function. This was done without targets having to
answer calls, and the phone call often disappearing from logs. The
Financial Times reported the spyware used was developed by the Israeli
developer the NSO Group.

*** Apply Now for the Open Tech Fund Digital Integrity Fellowship
Program ***

The Digital Integrity Fellowship Program (DIFP) has an open call, with
the deadline being July 15. DIFP Fellows provide digital security
support to organizations and communities most affected by Internet
Freedom violations. They also educate the broader Internet Freedom field
about the threats and vulnerabilities being experienced, to ensure
emerging and existing technologies best meet the needs of at-risk
communities.

*** Calling All Open Internet Engineers from the Global South! New
Mozilla Opportunity ***

Mozilla is currently seeking open Internet engineers from the Global
South for its newest fellowship track. Accepted fellows will lead the
build out of an infrastructure projects in their communities. Deadline
is May 23.

*** New Vietnam Cyber Dialogue Report ***

Surveillance and censorship in Vietnam continues to rise while more
aggressive tactics have been used against activists in the last several
years, according to the latest Vietnam Cyber Dialogue. Among other
findings, the new cybersecurity law passed in January of this year has
expanded the authorities’ ability to arrest people for their online
activities.
