***  Save the Date: Internet Freedom Festival 2020 ***

The 6th edition of Internet Freedom Festival will take place on April
20-24 in Valencia, Spain. It will include a new format and exciting new

*** This Week 7+ Countries Experienced Internet Blackouts ***

This week the following countries have experienced complete or partial
Interne blackouts: Sudan, Ethiopia, Algeria, Somalia, Venezuela,
Kazakhstan and Liberia. Al Jazeerah explains why government-imposed
internet shutdowns are on the rise worldwide.

*** New Social Media Councils in the Works ***

Article19 is proposing the creation of Social Media Councils (SMCs),
aimed at providing an open, transparent, accountable and participatory
forum to address content moderation issues on social media platforms on
the basis of international standards on human rights. They are currently
seeking community feedback, and have submitted their proposal to public
consultation.

*** New VPN for Venezuela ***

Psiphon y Redes Ayuda have partnered up to create a new VPN for
Venezuela. The VPN will be free for users and contain no advertising. It
is currently available for Android.
