*** Internet Blackout in Sudan ***

Various sources are reporting an Internet blackout in Sudan following
protests where dozens of peaceful demonstrators were killed. Net Blocks
data is showing a near-total restriction on the flow of information in
and out of the country for a significant portion of the population.

*** Russia’s Largest Search Engine Ordered to Hand Over Encryption Keys
to Authorities ***

Russian media is reporting that Yandex, the country’s largest search
engine, has refused to turn over encryption keys that would give the
country's law enforcement the ability to decode its entire e-mail
traffic. Yandex would not confirm the report but stated that they would
meet law enforcement demands without compromising personal privacy.

*** Open Call for Digital Integrity Fellow Traineeship in Southeast Asia ***

Digital Defenders Partnership is looking for applicants for its
Southeast Asia traineeship. Individuals will have the opportunity to
Selected participants will, in the first phase, take part in a two-week
training from 19 August to 1 September 2019 and, if selected for the
second phase, will go on to carry out a three month paid Digital
Integrity Fellowship, accompanying a human rights organisation in
improving its digital security.  Apply before June 10!
