Dear friends,

This newsletter is a service for the community of Internet Freedom
defenders around the world! Send us interesting updates, open positions,
events and resources and we will share it in our next newsletter.
Contact us at team at internetfreedomfestival.org.

Here are your updates for the week of 7 to 11 of January:

*** IFF Session Acceptance Letters Are Out!!! ***
The 2019 IFF sessions have been picked and all approval letters were
sent this week! We will be publishing the schedule within the next two
weeks. This year, IFF Fellows received over 600 sessions, making their
job a very hard one. Please send them love, as they have curated one of
the best IFF programs to-date. If your session was accepted, please
follow the instructions in the approval email to confirm your session.
If you did not receive an email, don’t worry! As usual, we will have
reserved spaces for self-organized sessions during the IFF.

We want to thank everyone who submitted a proposal! It has been both
humbling and exciting to see how much the depth of knowledge and
representation of the Internet Freedom community has improved throughout
the years!

*** IFF Invitation Letters for Visa Applications ***
If you are in need of an invitation letter for visa applications and are
either a speaker or participant with a confirmed ticket, please email
team at internetfreedomfestival.org with your request.

*** Support the Campaign Netsweeper: Stop censoring LGBT+ content now! ***
Red en Defensa de los Derechos Digitales and All Out are campaigning
together to demand that Netsweeper stop providing technology that
violates human rights. Specifically, they state that the company
provides governments with technology to block LGBT+ content, including
life-saving information HIV/AIDS prevention.

*** Report by Privacy International on Facebook violation of Privacy ***
Privacy International just published a report investigating apps
interactions with Facebook on Android. They found that 61% of apps
tested automatically transferred data to Facebook the moment the user
opened the app, and happened whether people had a Facebook account or
not. They also discovered that some apps routinely sent Facebook
sensitive and detailed data.
