### News and Updates ###
*** Shelter City Netherlands - New Call for applications (Deadline 11
June 2018) ***
Justice and Peace is launching a new call for Human Rights Defenders to
participate in the Shelter City Initiative. The Shelter City Initiative
offers human rights defenders (HRDs) a possibility for rest and respite
by letting them escape temporarily from a threatening situation. Shelter
City offer a safe space to human rights defenders at a moment where they
are particularly vulnerable and their security can no longer be
guaranteed at home. The programme's objective is to offer the human
rights defender a shelter for three months, during which she/he will
rest, build up capacity, extend her/his network and raise awareness
about the situation in their country. At the end of the programme,
participants are expected to return with new tools and energy to carry
out their work at home. From September 2018, eleven cities in the
Netherlands will receive human rights defenders for a period of three
months. We are looking for human rights defenders who might be helped
with a short relocation programme, because they are threatened or under
intense pressure due to their work. To apply or submit the application
of a human rights defender, please e-mail sheltercity at justiceandpeace.nl.

*** Martus Platform Ceases Development ***
Benetech announced they have ceased the development on the current
Martus platform. “We are continuing to serve our current users, and can
provide advice or support with data migration to a new platform, on a
case by case basis. Our objective is to remain as responsible and
ethical as possible with this transition; change is never easy but we
hope to make this process as smooth as we can. […] As such we are
hosting a series of conversations that identify, document, and address
the needs, ethical concerns, and possible solutions for human rights
documentation tools and services going forward. This will entail
scheduled monthly calls with peer organizations, Martus users (current
and former), funders, and other supporters over a period of six months,
beginning in June. If you’d like to participate in these upcoming calls,
please let us know directly - we’d love your feedback and input. If your
interest is in providing support or technical expertise, we’d be happy
to hear from you as well (martus at benetech.org)”.
