*** Civil Rights Defenders’ Innovation Challenge ***
Civil Rights Defenders is scouting the globe for innovative ideas to
supports human rights defenders’ (HRD) security and impact. The
Innovation Challenge 2018 will award grants to applicants with
particularly innovative ideas aimed at supporting the work of HRDs. Up
to 300 000 SEK (ca $34, 000) of funding is up for grabs to turn help you
turn your idea into a prototype. Apply before May 22nd.

*** Digital Infrastructure Research funding opportunity ***
Everything in our modern society runs on software. Nearly all of this
software is built on digital infrastructure, a foundation of free and
public code that is designed to solve common challenges. The Ford
Foundation and Sloan Foundation have teamed to fund research projects
which explore how to sustain and maintain the open source code we rely
upon every day. To apply for funding, submit a concept note by June 13th.

*** Twitter password security glitch ***
Sensitive personal data like passwords are normally stored in hashed
form using a mix of letters and numbers to protect the content of the
password itself. Twitter has revealed that a bug caused the platform to
store user passwords in unmasked form and have urged all users to change
their passwords immediately and the password of any other accounts with
the same password as their Twitter account.

*** Resources for accessing uncensored information in China ***
China's system of information control is one of the most sophisticated
and restrictive in the world and the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP)
propaganda and censorship efforts are increasingly reaching beyond
China’s borders. Actors inside and outside China have been implementing
strategies to combat this. Freedom House researchers have compiled a
list of resources to protect and expand freedom of expression and access
to information.
