*** IFF Launches the IFF Community Development Fellows Program ***

The IFF is holding an open call for the IFF Community Development
Fellows Program, the first program in the internet freedom space to
focus entirely on community development. Fellows will identify, connect,
and grow local communities working to defend a free and open Internet.
In addition, fellows will play a key role in the IFF, reviewing and
selecting the sessions that will be included in the festival’s program.

*** China’s
prosecutors charge former top internet censor with corruption ***

China’s former internet tsar Lu Wei has been charged with taking a “huge
amount” of bribes, the top prosecutor’s office announced on Monday.

*** Russia: We want volunteers to help us censor the internet ***

Russia's interior minister says he wants citizens to scour the internet
for banned material. Free-speech activists reckon the number of blocked
websites in Russia now tops 100,000.

*** Iraq Orders Internet Blackout To Quell Protests ***

The Iraqi central government has imposed a full internet shutdown across
the southern provinces of Iraq, including Baghdad and oil-rich Basra in
an attempt to prevent a further escalation of protests, and to make it
more difficult for protest organizers to communicate.
