### News and Updates ###

*** Fine Acts Labs offering fellowships for artists and technologists ***
The next edition of Fine Acts Labs will take place in Sofia, Bulgaria
(7-11 June 2018) and will focus on the threats to democracy and civil
rights in Europe, and the shrinking space for civil society in the
region. Artists and technologists from Hungary, Poland, Romania and
Bulgaria can apply for a fully subsidized Fine Acts Fellowship, which
supports an international community of creatives and makers who
collaborate across disciplines to generate positive change.

*** Google caught in the battle between Russia and Telegram ***
Google and Amazon are the latest have been caught up in the battle
between the Russian government and the Telegram messaging app. Russian
users are struggling to access Gmail and YouTube since authorities
blacklisted some of the tech giants’ IP addresses, based on the belief
that Google is helping Telegram bypass a ban on its encrypted messaging
service.

*** Consequences of linking women’s medical records to national ID cards
in India ***
For women, control and autonomy over their bodies as well as data and
decisions associated with their bodies is an important aspect of
privacy. By recording every abortion and tracking this information
through the woman’s Aadhaar details, a digital trail of choices
exercised about one’s body is created under State vision. This hampers
women’s autonomy to make decisions related to their bodies and life.
