Dear XX,
I’m writing to you because I think you would be a good candidate for the
Internet Freedom Festival Community Empowerment Program. Please note
that applications are due September 6, 2019 at 9 PM EST.
The Internet Freedom Festival (IFF) is one of the largest, most diverse,
and most inclusive unconferences at the intersection of human rights and
technology. It brings together over 1,000+ activists, journalists,
technologists, and human rights defenders from 100 countries who are
working on different aspects of digital rights, online privacy and
security, and open technology.
Having attended in previous years, I can tell you that it’s a unique
event for the positive, collaborative culture they create, and their
focus on ensuring that underrepresented and frontline communities are
both well represented and leading important conversations that shape the
future of the Internet.
The Community Empowerment Program (CEP), is a unique program designed to
improve the skills of community builders working with or for communities
facing threats to their digital rights or experiencing any form of
online surveillance or censorship. The cohort will receive assistance in
obtaining resources to kick-start or grow their own community
empowerment projects, and create and strengthen ties between their
community and networks throughout the world. They will also receive
customized training focused on improving the skills they need to
securely grow and nurture their community. They will also play a vital
role in the IFF 2020 by , reviewing sessions, curating the program, and
presenting their projects.
I really hope you apply! Please remember, applications must be submitted
before September 6, 2019 at 9 PM EST. Please note that those chosen will
need to attend the CEP Summit in October, and the IFF in April, both of
which will take place in Valencia, Spain - All expenses will be covered.
You can read more about the CEP and find the online application here:
