[Ta3m-Seattle] We've got ourselves a mayor's race! (Upgrade Seattle)

I personally think that municipal broadband is a good solution to multiple
problems in the internet space:
* wealth inequality driven problems with access
* privacy (yes, I know the city has problems in this area, but I assert
they are probably less bad than Comcast/Centurylink on the whole, and can
be driven by democratic process to be better)
* free market competition (if you can believe it!) - the city provides the
fiber, service itself CAN then be highly competitive
* fiber and true broadband (defined by the FCC as 25mbps down/3 mbps up -
virtually unattainable on DSL) availability
The Comcast/Centurylink duopoly have been failing hard on all these points
in Seattle for a long time.
Upgrade Seattle are AFAIK the primary folks pushing muni broadband in
Seattle - I suggest all TA3M and Seattle Privacy folks keep an eye on /
support these folks.
And of course, the underlying point about the mega-mayoral race is that it
is an opportunity to pressure candidates on various topics of interest
well beyond muni broadband!

Twenty-one!
Last Friday, 21 candidates filed to run for Mayor of Seattle. Between now and the Primary Election on August 1st, each of these candidates will be working hard to earn your votes.
We need your help to make sure that the next Seattle Mayor supports building a municipal broadband utility across this great city!
If the last two years have taught us anything, it's that mayoral support is important.
Twice now, when the Seattle City Council put forward incremental legislation aimed at building out a public broadband network, mayoral opposition was key in killing that progress.
In 2015 the mayor fought against building a pilot project in Beacon Hill. Well it's 2017 and we have the opportunity to vote in a mayor who will be supportive of municipal broadband. And this is where you come in:
Will you attend one of the following mayoral forums and ask the candidates their stance?
June 14th @ Seattle University: (http://upgradeseattle.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=76bf704d534868773d182b2d8&id=81506bc8cd&e=ad2177c677) Candidate Jeopardy by the Seattle Weekly.
July 11th @ Neumos: (http://upgradeseattle.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=76bf704d534868773d182b2d8&id=f355beaba1&e=ad2177c677) Candidate Survivor by the Washington Bus.
We need your help to get candidates on the record. Ask them their stance, snap photos with them and post them to our Facebook (http://upgradeseattle.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=76bf704d534868773d182b2d8&id=147e496268&e=ad2177c677) and Twitter (http://upgradeseattle.us9.list-manage.com/track/click?u=76bf704d534868773d182b2d8&id=ff83f4d540&e=ad2177c677) accounts. Use the hashtags #publicISP or #unplugcomcast!
2017 is our year. We can do this. But we need your help!
