Hello Data Literacy Consortium Peeps,

Hope you all are having lovely Augusts.

I’ve been working for the last year with the good folks at 360Giving (http://www.threesixtygiving.org/) on developing a data champions network for community foundations. This has been a pilot program that has recently concluded and we reflected on what we’ve learned. What we’ve found is that participants benefitted from the opportunity to have informal conversations about challenges they face in integrating data into their work and the steps they are taking to overcome them. We started building interaction with a workshop on “Data Workflows” where the participants could compare and contrast on their experiences, and we also held a workshop on building data culture that got the participant to identify opportunities for learning within their foundations. We held a series of online discussions that focused on our champions and what they were learning in their work with data, such as harmonising qualititive and quantitive data.

I’ve got a write up on our learnings from the initiative here: http://www.fabriders.net/implementing-data-champions/

We’re starting to plan the next phase of the Data Champions initiative, which will be expanding to individuals who want to champion their foundation to make data-informed decisions. I’m curious if our findings resonate with people on the list who have implemented similar initiatives and if you might have any insights we can learn from at this stage.

Please share on this list, but do feel free to ping me directly.

Best,

Dirk
