[SessionDesign] Checking in on Virtual vs IRL (and Hybrids?) and another lab.

Hi,

Yes, not just feeling excluded but also actually having power - my current working hypothesis is that virtual and face to face are VERY different formats and experiences for people. A virtual session can be super productive, and you can have lots of collaboration on meaningful outputs and really get stuff done together, while face to face sessions are all about informal networking, being able to have deep personal conversations over lunch and breaks, etc.

I’m thinking that doing a hybrid severely cripples both and also really makes the experience less positive for both the online and face to face participants. So really curious about examples people might have where the benefits of a hybrid are more than having them as an either/or.

Curious as to what folks think.

Also just a reminder about the session on Thursday to really hash this out - if you’re available this Thursday the 24th at 4pm UTC, (check your time zone <https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html?iso=20220324T160000&p1=136&p2=224&p3=155&p4=41&p5=263&p6=51&p7=37&p8=125&p9=34&p10=170&p11=44&p12=145>) register to meet me here: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcrcumsqT0oH9Wbzx0WrP-0piVuNCvAcPbZ <https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcrcumsqT0oH9Wbzx0WrP-0piVuNCvAcPbZ>

Thanks,

Dirk

What are the trade-offs? When is it worth the risk and expense of doing a face-to-face (what people are now calling IRL - In Real Life)? And what about Hybrids - do they really work? I’m really curious about what people’s experience is on this.
