Hi Dirk:
I am going to be involved with my first hybrid in May that we are planning
for now. Some of my colleagues have been doing hybrid teaching for the
past year. Here are some things I heard, but I’m early in this:
1 - Treat them as 3 audiences: in person, online and hybrid (to switch
between, the stage manager role).
2 - If you have multiple people presenting, give one the role of in-person
host, and one the role of switching between (calling on online audience).
Some can wear both hats at once but it may be better to ask for some help
with that than to try to do both as in-person host.
3 - If you have short online speakers, pre-record if possible to improve
timing of switch and reduce risk variables.
4 - Consider each part of the script as an element and how you might
coordinate and switch between them.
That’s all I’ve got for now. Might be able to tell you more in a few
months. It does sound like it needs more coordination to do it well.
Best,
Cybèle
