A friend who has installed and uses WireGuard writes this:
This is a "Hello World" level tutorial on setting up your own Wireguard based VPN: https://upcloud.com/community/tutorials/get-started-wireguard-vpn/
Based on the tutorial above, this two scripts use Docker to automate a few steps, each script is very short, you can study them if you are comfortable with Docker: https://github.com/certaintls/build-VPN-server/tree/main/scripts
Here is the whole automation (All you need is a SSH account) to set up a Wireguard VPN server, and scan the generated QR-Code to config your client app: https://github.com/certaintls/build-VPN-server/blob/main/.github/workflows/wireguard.yml

Subject: Re: [liberationtech] Recommended tech, apps, procedures
I wonder if anyone has any easy-to-follow instructions on setting up standalone instances of wireguard. I've started but can't get it to work, just not techie enough, I guess, but easy to follow instructions would be good for many others like me. I also don't understand how to make wireguard work on a phone, the more practical application, I think. And I'm trying to find a simple path to getting around restrictions on a Chinese phone, either by sideloading or trusted rewrite or ROM. With plain instructions. The easier these types of things are for lay people to use, the more widely adopted and the harder it becomes for "authorities" to clamp down everywhere ... IMHO
