If you want something that won't be shut down in a snap, that is 'activist
ready', you will often hit a point where self-deployment is needed (ideally in
Switzerland or Iceland). Even E2EE platforms like KeyBase are hapless against
the federal investigations and warrants for metadata sharing, not to mention
company buyouts (as Zoom did, for instance). 

Once a quality, secured, community-owned and run platform is up thousands can and
will use it, with ease, and the community will prosper and bloom. I have done
this and seen this many times, a key part of my sysadmin work and support of
at-risk groups.
