Hi folks,
We put up a new job at Freedom of the Press Foundation this week:
https://freedom.press/jobs/job-opening-newsroom-services-coordinator/
In terms of liberation tech, this role interfaces with news orgs
installing or maintaining SecureDrop ( https://securedrop.org/ ), the
open source whistleblower submission platform originally conceived by
Aaron Swartz.
The person in this role is also responsible for coordinating our digital
security training & consulting services to news organizations, which
cover topics from basic ("what's 2FA", password mgmt, etc.) to advanced
("how do I securely manage a Signal tipline").
In this role you have to be comfortable handling a fair number of
logistics tasks -- slinging tickets, scheduling calls, organizing
contracts, that sort of thing. But there is a lot of potential for long
term advancement as well: to learn more about SecureDrop, or the digital
security topics that we advise orgs about.
So, I'd say this is a great role if your understanding of these topics
is not highly advanced yet but you're eager to learn. Perhaps you come
from an administrative or tech support background, and would love to
fully transition into mission-driven tech work.
If this describes you, or someone in your network, please check it out
or pass it along. As it says on the page above, we're also happy to have
quick calls with folks if you're not entirely sure whether this is the
role for you, but want to discuss it. :)
Warmly,
Erik
