USAID's Development Innovation Ventures (DIV) at
https://divportfolio.org/ is both recruiting and soliciting proposals
for innovative solutions. We would be grateful if you are able to
circulate information on these opportunities further, by tweeting,
distributing to lists of former employees of your organization, or
just talking to people you think would be suitable. (If you are
interested, that is wonderful too.)
Development Innovation Ventures supports piloting and rigorous testing
of innovations in development and helps transition the most successful
innovations to scale. Thus, for example, DIV supported a rigorous
evaluation by James Habyarimana and Billy Jack of Georgetown
University which found dramatic reductions in accident rates from
placing stickers in minibuses in Kenya encouraging passengers to speak
up if the driver was driving unsafely. DIV then supported a national
scale up, and the innovation is now improving safety for millions of
Kenyans and being rigorously tested to see if there are similar
effects in other countries. I serve as DIV's Scientific Director.
We are looking for someone with suitable skills in rigorous impact
evaluation to play a very senior role in the leadership team of
Development Innovation Ventures:

The position is open to US citizens, and closes June 24.
Applicants should fill out a questionnaire, which may look a little
unusual, but is part of the US government's HR policy. Since it takes
time to fill out the form, I would encourage potential applicants to
take a look as soon as possible. I would suggest they carefully read
the material on the link, and to make sure that they explicitly
address the questions asked, which may require careful attention, as
most existing resumes may not explicitly cover areas such as
"teamwork." If the applicant is not familiar with how the process
works for applying to government jobs through forms such as this, they
might want to research it, or react out to someone who is familiar
with the process.
I think this is a really exciting opportunity and I’d encourage people
to apply. Unfortunately I am going to be in meetings and traveling a
fair amount between now and the deadline, and there are rules limiting
how much I can say in any case, so I am probably not able to provide
further information on the position beyond what is on the website, but
obviously once people apply and get further in the process there will
be opportunity to further discuss specifics with the interview panel.
Finally DIV is also soliciting proposals for innovative solutions
(rolling). https://divportfolio.org/apply
Best wishes,
Michael
