affiliate *Yasodara Cordova* tells *The New York Times* that Brazilians in
poorer areas turn to WhatsApp instead of YouTube because they cannot afford
the data, but instead share clips from YouTube videos via WhatsApp.
Research from BKC faculty associate *Virgilio Almeida* into the use of
WhatsApp in Brazil supports this finding.

The *Assembly Fellowship*
<https://harvard.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=ef13e6d75b74b1791f13115cd&id=e65dc0a468&e=07f1648302>
is an intensive non-residential four-month fellowship for technologists,
managers, and policymakers. Assembly Fellows confront problems related to
disinformation by creating collaborative provocations or prototypes aimed
at better understanding, drawing attention to, and countering
disinformation campaigns. Over the course of the fellowship, Assembly
Fellows learn and build together with the support of our community. The
Assembly Fellowship was first piloted in 2017 and was co-developed with the
MIT Media Lab. This year, it is hosted by the Berkman Klein Center.

Applications are open from August 14th to September 15th, 2019.
