Dear all,

I hope that the following post might be of interest to some colleagues in the list:

Lecturer in Legal Technology and Innovation
School of Law and Politics / Cardiff University

Advances in technology are likely to represent the largest change and opportunity for the legal profession in coming years. The move towards online courts, the use of technology to perform everyday lawyerly tasks and the use of Artificial Intelligence to analyse and replicate legal decision-making are all likely to revolutionise the workplace for many of our students.

The School of Law and Politics at Cardiff University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (grade 6 / 7) in Legal Technology and Innovation whose research and teaching explores the impact of digital technology and innovation on law and / or legal services. This could include specific expertise in Information Technology Law, the legal consequences and context of artificial intelligence, the interpretation and significance of 'big data', the role of law in relation to the digital economy, e-participation and e-government and other issues concerning emerging digital technologies.

The post holder will be expected to carry out research into the effect of technology upon access to justice and upon legal services as well as contributing to our teaching agenda by exploring how the Law curriculum needs to adapt in light of technological change.

The post holder will also contribute to the teaching of one or more foundation subjects in Law, supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students, develop links between the Law and Politics departments within the School and contribute to the successful administration and management of the School and its constituent departments.

The successful candidate will have obtained a PhD or equivalent in Law, Politics/Political Science, Computer Science or an allied field by the time the appointment begins. They should also have demonstrable potential of excellence in both research and teaching.
