No doubt you've seen the news about the US government ban on people from a
list of predominately Muslim countries from entering the US.
A lot of young people planning on going to the US to pursue their studies
now find their dreams in tatters.
And a lot of academics in our field are feeling hopeless about the
emerging situation in the US, wondering what we can do to help.
Here are three quick ideas:
1. Add your contact details, research areas, funding opportunities to this
googledoc:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/17r18cKaMSeZF4fI7UZYV0QwCvdbEb3vy3BMNZfgbgzI/edit?usp=sharing
The idea is to provide aspiring Masters/PhD students from the banned
countries with a place where they can easily find information and contact
points to help them explore options other than the US for their future
studies.
2. Talk to your Deans, Principals and Vice-Presidents about the idea of
releasing extra funds for scholarships this year.
3. Spread this message widely! Use twitter, Facebook, your e-mail address
book, and any national mailing lists that you feel would be appropriate.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have other ideas or suggestions.
Cheers,
Kenny
